About John Furey

John Furey has painted in oils, acrylics and watercolor for 40 years.

Born and raised in Newfoundland, his working career in mining has taken him to various parts of Canada. He has lived and worked in North West Territories, British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

John was an active member of the Bathurst Art Society and held the position of Vice-President for 5 years.  He moved to Bathurst in the late fall of 2005 and moved to Prince George in the fall of 2014 where He was a gold member of the Two Rivers Art Gallery. John is currently living in Bathurst, NB.

John has some formal training from an ICS Art course in the late 70’s and from his college studies in an Architectural/Mechanical Drafting course.

He is mainly self-taught with his biggest influence being his late brother, Conrad Furey and the work of Early Impressionist painters.  The majority of John’s work over the past 15 years has been executed in watercolor and acrylic.

His work usually executed on a smaller scale, 16x20 or smaller normally, depicts the things that are part of his everyday life.  Painting what you know or have experienced is prevalent theme throughout his paintings. He considers himself (at times) a minimal expressionist forever chasing his muse.
